Paper instructions:
KEEP ALL POSTS TO THIS DISCUSSION BOARD PROFESSIONAL AND ONLY PROVIDE CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM. You may use the work of your classmates to assist you in setting up

your own research problem, but DO NOT repeat the same research problem.

You should post your problem statement, and a brief discussion of your topic and why it interests you.

Then, you are required to reply to at least TWO other classmates problem statements with feedback (each student should have at least two replies to their own

problem statement).

Here are the guidelines for selecting a research topic for this class:

1. Make sure the topic is HEALTH RELATED.

2. Your research problem should not be something that can be answered with a simple YES/NO.

3. Your research problem for this class should be a POPULATION LEVEL study- this means that the study should use human subjects and not be performed in a lab. You

will learn/have learned about laboratory research in your science courses. Refer to the first Prezzi slideshow in Module 2 if you have questions.

2. Your topic should be something that you could feasibly research. Although we will NOT COLLECT ANY DATA IN THIS CLASS, you should propose something that is do-

able.

3. Your topic CAN be something that you have written about in other classes. However, you are NOT to submit any assignments that have been submitted in other

classes. Turnitin.com will catch this and you will be penalized for plagiarism.

4.Use this format:

This study will (analyze/evaluate/investigate/etc.) ______________________.

Here are some examples of research problems:

This study will analyze the relationship between nurse sleep patterns and turn-over among ER nurses.
This study will evaluate the effectiveness of workplace wellness programs on obesity levels of employees in sedentary jobs.
This study will investigate the factors that influence clinician decisions to initiate therapy for patients with increased serum thyrotropin.
This study will evaluate the effectiveness of alternative drug therapy on osteoarthritis patients.

Problem Statement

Problem Statement

Project description
The goals of the first writing activity are to get you:

thinking about potential topics for the major assignment and
to begin grappling with issues of purpose, audience, and persuasion.

The activity is an informal BUT STILL PROFESSIONAL identification of a problem. The problem might be at your company, at a different company, related to municipal infrastructure, or whatever scenario you pick. Your mode of communication is a short email of around 150-200 words.

Your problem statement should broadly deal with the 5Ws: what, who, when, where and why. You arent expected to present any solutions at this time. Your job is simply to identify a problem and highlight the need for further investigation.

In your problem statement you should:

Provide context. Briefly educate your reader on the general and specific background.
Provide a detailed description of the problem. Be as specific as possible in the space constraints. In providing specifics, offer rationale for dealing with the problem (i.e., how does the problem affect operations or costs). Keep this axiom in mind: a problem clearly stated is half-solved.

Note that we are at the idea-generation phase of the major assignment. You are not bound to this topic, nor are you expected to have done extensive research on the topic. You should do enough research to flag a problem in a way that is informal and preliminary yet still builds your credibility.

Formatting Requirements:

Be sure to include a subject line, formal salutations, proper formatting, tone, visual structure, closing remarks and sign-off.
